Why We Love This Watch

Balance is the key to turning chaos into beauty. It happens too often that a busy dial is simply too crowded to appreciate. The Marvin Autodate manages to fit a beautiful triple calendar function into the dial in a manner that is not only aesthetically pleasing, but is also beautiful and timeless in its design. Split in half, the dial shows balance with its symmetry. The gold applied indices feel at home on the rich cream-gray dial while the blue date numbers give the watch a playful pop of color as it contrasts with the gold and cream pallet. the red tip date pointer helps you locate the date immediately and works with the indices to add color to dial, like a painter to a canvass. The sub-second dial also balances the day and month window above it, both of which adds dimension to the dial, giving more detail for the eye to catch.

The triple calendar is regarded as one of the most elegant of complications, and it shows on this tastefully designed watch. The case has slim proportions with a smaller less protruding crown that makes it quite dressy. The lugs have a carved canal in its center line, adding to the dressy aesthetic and overall appeal of the watch. Its dial is balanced in its busy-ness, captivating in its elaborate plain-ness. The watch is simple in its complexity. The only other contradiction i can think of is you not owning it!

A Closer Look

This watch is in good condition. It has just been serviced, tells accurate time and is fully functional. The case has some discoloration as seen in the pictures. It has a very clean and original two-tone dial with sharp print. Aging on the hands and indices are consistent. And the crystal is scratch-less.

Given that most of our watches are around half a century old, they will need to be treated with extra love and care. Vintage watches also require regular servicing once every 2-3 years.

And, no you cannot take these out for a swim.
