Why We Love This Watch

Much has been made about Rolex. Its accolades and its iconic status are very much well-known and they've cemented their position as a luxury giant, as well as a culture icon despite their origins being a humble tool watch. Nowadays, for vintage watch collectors at least, Rolex has somewhat become a "treasure hunt" of unusual watch designs in their past. After all, having an established design means that before getting there, you had to try a lot of things to get it right. If your eyes are keen enough, you'd notice the subtle, but unusual "bullet" indices on the dial plus the "shock-resisting" label, two things you don't see anymore on modern Rolex watches (shock-resisting watches were pretty uncommon during that time).

Nowadays, Rolex watches are all automatic, so seeing this manual-wind creation is pretty unusual, but not uncommon for its time. The word "Oyster" in Rolex refers to their patented case while the often-overlooked "Perpetual" means that the watch is automatic, so having only "Oyster" on the dial meant that it's manually-wound. Fitted with a durable and relatively easy-to-service 1210 manual-wind movement, this 6480 isn't only an offbeat looker, but also, a highly reliable one which you can pass it on as a family heirloom. Because if there's one thing that is taken-for-granted in horology, it's wearing a watch without worry and this 6480 certainly does that for you!
