Why We Love This Watch

A Swiss watch brand that mostly flies under-the-radar, Girard-Perregaux is actually one of the oldest running watch manufacturers in the world. Originally founded in 1791, Girard-Perregaux found its name in 1856 upon Constant Girard and Marie Perregaux marriage. This gave rise to the Girard-Perregaux Manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds. From there, Girard-Perregaux won a number of chronometer awards at the Observatory of Neuchâtel around 1866 until 1876.

Girard-Perregaux was known for its own innovations and the Gyromatic is one of them. What's special about this specific Gyromatic is that it's the highly touted Gyromatic Chronometer HF, which was the first hi-beat movement watch. Created in 1966, this was Girard-Perregaux answer for the quest to make the most accurate watch possible and in 1967, they received the Centenary Award from the Astronomical Observatory de Neuchatel for their efforts. One thing to note is that the accuracy standard for the Astronomical Observatory de Neuchatel are far more stringent than the modern day COSC you see in some watches. With such an innovative history, the Gyromatic Chronometer HF is one marvelous feat of watchmaking encased in a modern-looking cushion case. Feel the sense of pride as this feat of horological engineering still stands tall amongst its modern brethren.
